Before agreeing to fewer hours, check whether the advertised salary is the full-time amount. The pay for your own schedule depends on both your hours and the employer's full-time week.

Start with the contracted hours

Pro rata means a share of the full-time amount. The pro rata calculator divides your weekly hours by the full-time hours, then applies that share to salary. Enter the employer's normal week rather than assuming every job uses the same hours. Use hourly pay when the contract gives a rate for each hour instead.

All six forms returned the same gross salary in the table's hours-ratio check. That tests the salary scaling only. It does not establish accurate take-home pay, pension deductions, loan repayments or holiday entitlement.

Choose the deductions you need

The Salary Calculator's selected form includes Scotland, pension methods and undergraduate plus postgraduate loans together. CalcRoll and True Take-Home have Scottish controls but no pension or loan inputs on these forms. Money Worked Out and PayPlainly use fixed assumptions for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Money Worked Out's separate take-home calculator accepts the reduced gross salary with Scottish tax and deduction choices. For more detail, the pension comparison explains how the contribution method affects cash pay. Check your student loan plan before estimating the deductions from fewer hours.

Keep hours changes separate from partial months

A reduced weekly schedule differs from starting halfway through a month. The part-month salary calculator compares common gross-pay methods for a partial month. Your employer must confirm the method used by payroll.

Term-time contracts also need the paid weeks and contract terms. None of the gross-hours results in this comparison verifies a term-time arrangement. GOV.UK explains part-time workers' rights; an estimate does not settle your contractual entitlement.

Read the working and the check limits

The working row asks whether the form substitutes your inputs into the gross-hours arithmetic. CalcRoll and Money Worked Out did so. A fixed example below a form does not meet that definition. Money Worked Out's calculation guide explains its tax and rounding assumptions.

How we checked

The five criteria were fixed before checking the selected pro rata forms: gross salary from weekly hours, take-home from those hours, Scotland, pension-method choices and undergraduate plus postgraduate loans active together. Control changes supported each recorded feature. Separate tools receive no credit in this table. The working row requires input-substituted gross-hours arithmetic. Successful external scripts were grouped by service during fresh page loads on 3 October 2026 before consent. Counts exclude same-origin scripts, styles, fonts and separate beacons. Unknown privacy fields remain unconfirmed; zero observed services does not establish permanent absence. Consent stayed unaccepted, so the external checks do not establish normal use after consent.

All six showed £21,000.00 gross a year. The reference is full-time salary multiplied by reduced hours and divided by full-time hours. This verifies gross scaling only, not net pay, pensions, loans, holidays or term-time contracts.

Checked on 3 October 2026.

Can I enter working days instead of weekly hours?

This comparison ranks forms by weekly hours. Days give the same share only when each day has the same paid hours, so check your schedule first.

Does reduced salary mean the same reduction in take-home pay?

Tax and deductions depend on the resulting income. A gross-pay share alone cannot give the same share of net pay.

Which form handles both loan types together?

The Salary Calculator kept undergraduate and postgraduate choices active together in its pro rata form. The other five selected forms did not provide that combination.

Can the gross-pay example confirm my payslip?

It checks one hours ratio. Payroll may include different tax codes, pension treatment and pay-period adjustments, which need a separate check.
