Salary after tax
This table shows what you keep from each salary in the 2026/27 tax year after income tax and National Insurance. Each salary has its own page with the full working, the Scottish figures, student loan repayments and the effect of paying into a pension.

What the figures assume
The table uses the standard tax code, no other income, no pension and no student loan, for someone who pays income tax in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. Each salary page adds the Scottish figures and the other options.
For a salary that is not listed, or to add a pension or student loan, use the take-home pay calculator. It uses the same rates and the same method, which the methodology page explains.
Why take-home pay does not rise in step with salary
Tax and National Insurance take a different share of each slice of your pay. The first £12,570 is free of income tax, the next part is taxed at the basic rate, and higher slices are taxed at higher rates. National Insurance falls to a lower rate on pay above £50,270.
So a raise is worth less, in take-home terms, the more you already earn. Between £100,000 and £125,140 the personal allowance is withdrawn as well, and in that range each extra pound of salary is taxed more heavily than at any other point.
How the pages are checked
Every figure on these pages is worked out by the same engine as the calculator, and a second program written separately recomputes each one. If the two disagree by a penny the page is not published. The words on each page are checked too, so that a sentence about one salary is not copied onto another where it would be wrong.
Questions
Which tax year do these figures cover?
The 2026/27 tax year, which runs from the sixth of April to the fifth of April the following year. Every rate comes from GOV.UK and is listed with its source on the sources page.
Why is my payslip slightly different?
Employers work out tax and National Insurance for each pay period separately, and your tax code may not be the standard one. The figures here are for a full year at once, so a monthly payslip can differ by a few pence.
Are the Scottish figures included?
Yes. Each salary page shows what a Scottish taxpayer keeps next to the figure for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and explains why the two differ at that salary.
