A Scottish take-home estimate needs Scottish income tax selected before you compare the result. This shortlist checks the controls that let you match your payslip: your loan plan, tax code and pension method. Money Worked Out and My Pay Calculator have all four confirmed controls.

Choose the tax region and loan plan separately

Start with the take-home pay calculator and select Scotland if you are a Scottish taxpayer. All six checked forms have a Scottish tax choice. On UK Tax Calculators, open "change tax region" to find it.

GOV.UK explains who pays Scottish income tax, including guidance for moving or having more than one home. The income tax rates guide explains the bands used in an estimate.

Your loan plan needs its own check. The official repayment plan guide uses your student finance provider and course details. Applications to the Student Awards Agency Scotland use Plan 4. Living in Scotland alone does not select your repayment plan. Use the student loan repayment calculator once you know which plan applies.

Match the pension method

A pension percentage leaves a question unanswered: how does the contribution reach your pension? For this comparison, a confirmed choice covers net pay, relief at source and salary sacrifice. Money Worked Out supports those methods. My Pay Calculator explains net pay in its employer pension section and relief at source in its personal pension section, and also has salary sacrifice.

The Salary Calculator uses Employer and Personal labels. UK Tax Calculators uses Employers Scheme and Private Plan. The checked forms did not establish how these options map to net pay and relief at source. Those entries stay "Not checked". Listen to Taxman has relief at source and salary sacrifice only. UK Salary Calculator has a generic pension input and a separate sacrifice tab.

If payroll uses salary sacrifice, the salary sacrifice calculator lets you follow that calculation. For other methods, the pension and take-home guide explains what to enter. Ask payroll which method your scheme uses if you cannot tell from your payslip.

Check whether you can enter your code

Five shortlisted forms accept a tax code you type. UK Salary Calculator's checked main form has a fixed list of codes instead. Its separate code checker does not add custom entry to that salary form.

The tax code checker can help you read the code on your payslip. Use that code in a calculator that accepts it, then check the nation and pension settings before comparing the deductions.

What the loan check tells you

The table records a Scottish annual salary example with zero pension, Plan 4 only and no other deductions. It shows the annual loan repayment displayed by each form. The current sourced rule gives the reference amount; whole-pound and pay-period rounding can explain small differences.

The completed checks matched that rule after whole-pound or pay-period rounding. Listen to Taxman remains "Not run": the selected inputs were read back, but the calculation check did not produce an updated result. That outcome does not establish a numerical fault.

This is a check of one loan deduction. Tax, National Insurance and pension calculations need their own tests. The control rows describe the chosen main forms, so a feature on a separate calculator does not count. External forms were checked through browser controls while cookie notices stayed unaccepted. These checks do not show how easy the forms are to use normally.

How we checked

Checked main calculator forms in an actual browser on 3 October 2026. Selected inputs were read back. External forms were checked through browser controls while cookie notices stayed unaccepted. These checks do not show how easy the forms are to use normally. Pension choice means explicit support for net pay, relief at source and salary sacrifice on that main form. Unknown method mappings stay Not checked. Full working means taxable-base deduction plus tax and NI bases and rates, not band tax totals alone. The loan spot check is separate from the control ranking and does not certify whole-calculator accuracy. Script counts group successfully loaded external JavaScript by service on the checked page load before consent, including libraries and excluding separate font, stylesheet and beacon requests.

Checked 3 October 2026: annual gross £35,000, Scotland, standard tax code, zero pension, Plan 4 only and no other deductions, using 2026/27. Current threshold £33,795 at 9% gives £108.45 annually before pay-period rounding. Whole-pound or pay-period rounding is allowed. Listen to Taxman is Not run because the check produced no updated result. This spot check covers only the loan deduction.

Checked on 3 October 2026.

Questions

Which checked calculators have all four controls?

Money Worked Out and My Pay Calculator have Scottish income tax, Plan 4, custom tax code entry and a choice covering net pay, relief at source and salary sacrifice. They lead this six-form shortlist.

Does living in Scotland mean you repay Plan 4?

Your student finance provider and course details determine your repayment plan. Applications to the Student Awards Agency Scotland use Plan 4. Scottish residence alone does not select the plan.

Why do some pension entries say Not checked?

The Salary Calculator and UK Tax Calculators have pension options, but their checked form labels did not establish which options use net pay and relief at source. An unresolved method stays Not checked.

Does the loan check prove every result is correct?

It checks one Scottish Plan 4 deduction with zero pension and no other deductions, allowing whole-pound and pay-period rounding. It does not certify the tax, National Insurance or pension calculation. Listen to Taxman's loan check is Not run.
