A short money quiz

Answer 3 questions about pay, prices and inflation. Choose an answer, then read the explanation before moving on. The final score shows how many you answered correctly.

You get a question from each topic. Pay questions use gross amounts before deductions. Price questions ask about a discount, percentage or cost per roll. The figures are practice examples. Inflation questions use annual averages from the ONS Consumer Prices Index, a measure of changing prices across a basket of goods and services.

Try the calculation yourself

Use the hourly rate calculator to compare gross pay over different periods. The inflation calculator compares buying power between years. Check a discount or price change with the percentage calculator. For a deposit pattern, try the savings challenge, or choose another short activity from money games.

Questions

When does the quiz change?

The quiz uses the London calendar date shown on the page. Play again to repeat the same questions. Reload on a later London date for that date's quiz; some questions may appear again.

Are the pay and price figures real?

Pay and price figures are invented practice examples. Pay questions use gross pay, before tax and other deductions. They do not estimate take-home pay or describe a job, shop or offer.

What do the inflation answers mean?

They show an approximate equivalent using ONS annual-average Consumer Prices Index figures for the years in the question. Answers are rounded to the nearest pound. Your own costs can change differently from the average.
