How to play

Each round shows an amount from a past year. Pick the amount that would have similar buying power in the latest full year in the data. You get ten rounds; each answer shows how the price index was applied, and you can copy your score at the end.

About the figures

The game uses the same annual price-index calculation as our inflation calculator. When both years have Consumer Prices Index (CPI) figures, it uses CPI. For earlier years it uses the Office for National Statistics' long-run composite price index for both years. These annual averages compare average prices across a year; they do not show what a particular item cost or what your own spending changed by.
